DAVAO DEL SUR — There are private armies operating in Davao del Sur, said Governor Douglas Cagas.
Cagas expressed concern the armed groups would terrorize voters in the coming 2013 elections.
“There are private armed groups supported by certain military and police officials. They are private armies who carry long firearms,” he said.
The governor tagged politicians he did not name as godfathers of the private armies.
He feared violence in the province in the 2013 polls if the armed groups are not dimantled.
Cagas said police and military officials know of the presence of the private armes.
Davao del Sur Provincial Police Officer director Sr. Supt. Ronaldo Llanera and Lt. Col. Normal Zuniega, the new battalion commander of the Army’s 39th Infantry Battalion, said they will look into claim.
